After growing up and graduating from high school in Marin County, just north of San Francisco, Phillip ventured south to Santa Barbara, where in addition to attending UCSB, he learned to surf and scuba dive and enjoy the best of the Southern California lifestyle. Upon graduating from college, Phillip embarked on a cross-country solo bicycle trip. It was a journey filled with adventure and contemplation and after 4 months and 4,000 miles on the road, he returned to Santa Barbara and met his wife of almost 27 years. The pair moved to Seattle where Phillip started a general contracting company and worked as a product and brand manager for $120 million company, AEI Music. After the birth of their two sons, the family moved back to the year round sunshine of Santa Barbara.
Back this time to stay, in 1999 Phillip founded Griffin Publishing, where he started and continues to publish Santa Barbara Dining and Destinations, and more recently the Santa Ynez Valley Destination Guide. Between the two publications over 180,000 magazines are printed and circulated annually.
Phillip is a very dedicated family man and successfully balances family responsibilities with both his and his wife’s professional aspirations. Dozens of Santa Barbara young men know Phil as “Coach Phil”, as he supported his sons’ passion for soccer and coached their AYSO all-star teams for 10+ cherished years. His family loves trying out new recipes together, traveling and adventuring in the great outdoors – paddle boarding, rock-climbing, annual backpacking trips, surfing and of course playing soccer.
With his two sons in college and a thriving publishing company, the time had finally come for Phillip to pursue a lifelong dream and turn his focus to the world of real estate. It made perfect sense to coalesce his specialized and diverse skill set of marketing, brand management, publishing, general contracting, and customer service, as these skills and experience make Phillip a successful, competent and enjoyable agent.
